Obituary

Peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2019, surrounded by family in the home he loved. John was born in Borrisokane, Co. Tipperary, Ireland in 1927. He joined the British Royal Air Force in 1946 and was stationed first in Bridlington, in Yorkshire, England and later at the R.A.F. Seletar base in Singapore. He arrived in Canada in 1948. John is predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara. Cherished father of Colleen Steele (Wayne), Shelagh Prysiazny (Brian), Kathleen Kiss (Frank), Mary Hogan, Brenda Fort (Larry) and Sean Hogan. He will be dearly missed by his twelve cherished grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. John retired from the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board in May of 1994. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Khoo and nurse Diana, Shannon from the LHIN and the West Niagara Palliative Care Team for all of the compassion and kindness shown to Dad. We celebrate his life and we will remember his generosity, his strong work ethic, his sense of humour and his independent spirit. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, from 12 noon until time of Service of Remembrance at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the family home at 2:30 p.m. Interment at Queen's Lawn Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in memory of John to GBF Community Services (www.gbfgrimsby.com) would be appreciated by the family.
In the words of John Hogan "God love you".
