Obituary for William Charles "Bill" Duffy

Bill passed away with his family by his side after being diagnosed with ALS 3 years ago. He was predeceased by his beloved Lorraine (Peever) in April 2015. He is survived by his daughters Meaghan (Tanya) and Kate (Justin). His sisters Patti, Barbara, Kathleen and Karen and their families. Also, his brother in law Brian Peever his wife Patti and their family. Bill was born to Bill and Adele Duffy and raised in Port Colborne. His love of ships started with a summer job as a deck hand and evolved into a lifelong career. Through experience, hard work and continued education Bill worked diligently through the ranks to become a licenced Captain. He went from the helm of a ship to an office when he joined the head office of Upper Lakes Shipping. He went on to hold various executive positions with Essroc, McKeil Marine, Northern Transportation Company Limited (President, NTCL) and TF Warren Group. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the medical and home care teams. His daily visits with the PSW’s resulted in not just care but many laughs, Bill was a “charmer”. His wish to live out his life in the comfort of his own home would not have been possible without their help. Thank you Liz and Lisa R. A special and heartfelt thank you to Lisa H who has been with Bill since his home care started. She understood his sense of humour, was a confidante and shared laughs and tears with him. Also, a special thank you to Maria who, as Bill’s fulltime caregiver for 8 months, made sure he was well looked after. They too, shared a wonderful friendship. Maria learned so much about birds and fauna. Bill made sure the birds were well fed. We spent many hours entertained by Bill’s many backyard visitors, it was a magical place…..
