Obituary for Paula Agnes Turner (Donahue)

TURNER, Paula Agnes (nee Donahue)
Aug. 6, 1921 - May 4, 2019

Paula passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family just shy of her 98th birthday.
She was born in Devon (now part of Fredericton, N.B.), the youngest of, and predeceased by, a family of six: Mary MacGregor, Helen "Honey" Donahue, Monica Donahue, Patricia Libby and Brian Donahue. She graduated from Fredericton Normal School and worked in a one-room school house for a year before heading to Ontario. On the train to Toronto to enter St. Joe’s nursing college, she met her future husband, Donald F. Turner (deceased), en route to RCAF training headquarters at the Toronto exhibition. They married in 1945 after Paula attained her RN credentials. In a time when most women stayed at home, Paula pursued her nursing career with passion and kindness while being a loving wife and devoted mother. She will always be missed by her daughters, Judy Turner-Blain and Trudy Turner-Latimer; their loving husbands, Vincent Blain and Bruce Latimer; her two grandchildren, Turner and Caitlin Blain and Turner’s wife, Krystale Spencer-Blain. Paula also leaves behind their wonderful son and Paula’s only great-grandson, Malcolm.

The family would like to give sincere thanks for the many acts of love, comfort and kindness offered by the staff and residents of Burloak Long Term Care, who welcomed mum into their lives. In particular, we want to remember Rita, her steadfast R.N., who knows and sees all and whose job Paula wanted to usurp; Irene and Ali who helped keep Paula comfortable in her last days; Jo-anne and Tracey, who kept Paula’s coiffure looking fabulous; Roxanne for her personal touch; Jasvir for her caring service and Heather, who leads by example. Paula was a kind and loving woman and she will be missed and remembered by her family, always.

A Visitation will be held at Smith's Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON, 905-632-3333, on Wednesday, May 8th, 2019 from 7-9pm, with vigil prayers at 8:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (2016 Blairholm Avenue, Burlington), on Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at 10:30 am., and following, will be Interment at Burlington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or The Canadian Cancer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
