Much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at Pioneer Elder Care on May 24, 2019 at the age of 97 years. He is survived by his devoted family: daughters Joanne (Gerry Varricchio) and Lisa Kordiaka (Frank), grandsons Jacob Ahee (Julia Porter), Benjamin Ahee (Emilie Moffat), and Anthony Kordyjaka (Marla), great-grandchildren Jack Ahee, and Quinn and Braiden Kordyjaka, younger brothers Harry and Phillip McMahon, brother-in-law Ted Clarke (Rita) and much loved nieces, Sandy McMahon (Bill), and Chris Gilder (Tom) and their families, nephews, George Clarke, Andrew Clarke (Sarah), Jeff Clarke (Jan) and their families. John was predeceased by his adored wife of 67 years Lucy Mary McMahon (nee Clarke), siblings Eric McMahon, Ann Keen and Doreen Buchanan, nephew Stephen, and much esteemed elder brother-in-law Tom Clarke. Special thanks to Pioneer Elder Care and all of its wonderful nurses and caregivers who work tirelessly to provide the best possible quality of life for the elderly suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s, in a home-like environment. The quality of care is superb, and their compassion is indescribable. We know they will miss John as part of their family, the way we will miss him as the patriarch of ours. Pursuant to John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will host a memorial to John in the near future and will contact family, friends, and colleagues with details of same. The family has requested that no flowers be sent, but has selected the Alzheimer Society Canada or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind for memorial contributions.

Dear Jo, Lisa and the rest of the family, no words can express my deep sorrow at the loss of your dad, my dear Uncle John. Although we were far away he was always there for me. A rock, a shoulder to cry on and always ready with wise words of advice and comfort. A couple of days after he passed, I was unpacking some boxes of papers that we hadn't been through since our house move last year. I had no idea what was in the boxes, but amongst the papers was a single black and white photograph of Uncle John, Aunty Lucy and one of you as a babe in arms. Uncle Phil has the rest of my family photos (borrowed them a few years ago for his family tree research) but for some strange reason this picture was there all on its own. The next document I pulled out was a letter from your dad sent to me the first Christmas after we lost my mum.... I like to think this was his way of letting me know he is still there looking after us all. Thinking of you all and hoping you can find some comfort in the knowledge that your dad was loved by so many and is now reunited with your mum and also his sister, Doreen (my mum) and all of the other McMahons who have passed. RIP my lovely Uncle John. The world is a poorer place without you. Much love to everyone in the family, Sue & Peter Green. xxx

Jo & Lisa & family: We are truly sorry for the loss of Uncle John & (Aunt Lucy earlier this year as well). He touched all of our hearts & was always so involved with the kids. Mike has the fondest memories of John from when Mike was a child. One of my favourite memories is from our wedding. It was raining and Logan was only 1.5 years old, John stood out in the pouring rain to watch Logan run back and forth on the bridge that leads to the restaurant. He just stood there and smiled & laughed at Logan's silliness. We will miss him & we are all thinking of you at this difficult time. Sending our love xo

Dear Jo and Lisa
John brought so many happy moments in our life and left us with plenty of wonderful memories. We will never be able to forget him. It's the little things. the small everyday occurrences that we will remember. The laughs, the stories. the smiles. Even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles. As hard as it may seem, you will get through this difficult time and emerge stronger. We are always around to help you through this trying period

Dear Jo & Lisa
The loss of someone dear to us is never easy, but take comfort in the fact that you are surrounded by people that love and care for you. Even though John and Lucy are no longer with us, I will cherish all of the wonderful memories that I have of them forever.

I know that what you are going through right now is so very difficult, just know that I am here for you anytime.
