It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Barr Harper after some years of poor health. Doug was born the second son of Allen and Margaret Harper in Irma (Wainwright), Alberta on the 23rd of November, 1928. The Harper family spent their early years on a farm before moving to Orillia, Ontario. As a teenager he met the love of his life, Maureen Fitzpatrick, and made her his wife. Doug and Maureen’s two sons and daughters-in-law produced 6 grandchildren who brightened his days, many of which were spent on the BG&C golf course. Survivors will remember Doug for his kindness, generosity and love of family and friends. As per Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 9:30a.m. until the time of a Celebration of Doug’s Life in the funeral home chapel at 10:30a.m. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
