Halina passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the age of 94. Predeceased by her husband Eugene, parents Jan and Eugenia Charlinski and brother Edmund. Lovingly remembered by her children Anna (Daniel Pierroz), John (Lorraine) and Renata (John Strickland). Adored Babcia to Kathryn, Nicholas (Carissa), Kimberley (Jeremy Brown) and Emma. Great-grandmother to Parker, Stella, Travis and Everly. She will also be missed by her nephews Christopher, Adam and Mark Charlinski and their families. Halina was born in Czarna Wies, Poland and had her life disrupted by World War II. She and her family spent time in Soviet labour camps before being released and making their way through the Middle East to Palestine. It was in a Polish camp for the displaced that she met and married Eugene. From Palestine, they immigrated to England and then finally to Canada in 1949. They settled and farmed near Beamsville, ON until shortly after Eugene’s death in 1985. Halina then moved to Grimsby, ON and in 2010 to Ottawa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, 166 West Street, Smithville, ON with burial following in the church cemetery. Reception to follow in the church hall. Special thanks to the staff at Robertson House and the Queensway-Carleton Hospital for the excellent care provided to Halina. Memorial donations may be made to the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation, Grimsby or the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation, Ottawa.
