He was born in Hamilton, ON to Charles and Leone (Babb) McIlroy. Predeceased also by his sister, Barbara.

Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy (Clark). Predeceased by his first wife Mary (Holt). Loving father of Joan (John) Usher of Sharbot Lake, ON, and Susan (Dave) Melanson of Coldwater ON. In 1971, upon his marriage to Dorothy, he became a loving father also to Doug (deceased 1999) (Tina) Oehmsen-Clark of Toronto, Beverly (Gene) Smyth of Guelph, and Karen (Kevin) Stenhouse, of Prince Edward. Dick graduated from Ryerson in May, 1950. An employee in the Electrical Department at STELCO for thirty years, he was instrumental in the implementation and staff training for their first computer. On the home front, he ran a small business, was one of the first to start building his own computers in the 70s, and helped many people in the Burlington area set up and fix their home computer systems. He was faithful to his church where he served in many roles over the years. Always a lover of playing piano, jazz and big band, he filled his home with music. He was a spiritual seeker and great thinker, photographer, and passionate genealogist and crocheter.
