Obituary for Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Blakeley (Scollard)

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family at her home on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the age of 76. Beloved wife of James for 51 years. Loving mother of Jamie and proud Nana of Flynn James. Cherished sister of Patrick Scollard, Colleen Staples (Rob) and Mary Claire Moher (Paul). Dear aunt of Stephanie (David), Nicole (Lorne), Bart (Miranda), Chris, Mike (Melissa) and Deanna (Patrick). Missed also by her many cousins and countless friends. Predeceased by her parents Leo and Clara Scollard and brother William Scollard (Sue). Also predeceased by her parents-in-law Ed and Viola Blakeley. Betty was a retired teacher from the Hamilton Catholic District School Board. Much of her career was devoted to Special Education in various capacities. Volunteer work became an integral part of Betty's retirement. She was an active member at St. Francis Xavier Parish, she was a member for over 40 years of the Catholic Women's League and a past president and recipient of the Maple Leaf Service Award. Betty was a volunteer at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice since 1999. In 2007 Betty received the June Callwood Volunteer of the Year Award. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Private family interment at a later date at St. Martin's Pioneer Cemetery, Ennismore, ON. If desired, memorial contributions to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
